Exporting Redwood Server Objects
Most objects can be exported as CAR files from within the user interface, they can then be imported with the process definition System_Import_Archive or from the command line. To customize your imports and exports, you can specify rule sets. Import and export rule sets allow you to adapt objects and streamline the promotion processes between Development, Quality Assurance or Test, and Production systems, for example.
When you select the Export > Export action from the context-menu of objects, a CAR file is immediately created for you and presented to your browser for download. You select the Export > Export with related objects action to retrieve a CAR file with the object in question as well as any other objects that are referenced by it. One notable exception are partitions that have the Exportable field set to false
; although these can be exported directly, they are not exported as relative objects.
To streamline promotion, it is advisable to use export and import rule sets to adapt objects to the destination system. Oftentimes, queue names, process server names, or ERP connector names change from one environment to the other.
Exports are used to process export rule sets and produce a CAR file.
