Process Monitors Overview
Process monitors are part of the Insight module and provide an overview over background processes that run on the central Redwood Server. The overview is targeted at non-IT personnel, such as accountants, financial controllers, and management.
Process monitors are made up of child process monitors and individual tasks that are part of a bigger process; tasks can be manual tasks where users intervene to accept or reject, for example, a financial report, and fully automated tasks taken care of by Redwood Server. Using process monitors you can see the current status of your tasks in a large complex process covering multiple units in your company, without being overwhelmed by too much information.
Process monitors have an instance which represents the run ID, for example, an instance could be set to CL_Q1_EMEA
, meaning Q1 closure of EMEA region. Later that year, you would have another run of the close processes, and the instance name of that second run could be CL_Q2_EMEA
.
In the "Business > Process Monitors" overview, a drop-down allows you to choose the process monitor/instance combination to display. When your process monitor has child process monitors, the children are also listed. You select a process monitor in the drop-down to display it with all its children in a hierarchy. A green progress bar, which uses historical runtime data, allows you to immediately see how far the process is in processing.
Process monitors not necessarily updated sequentially, depending on the order in which the relevant processes run.
Status Description
The status description gives you a clear overview of the current state of each process that is connected to a process monitor.
- In Progress - the process monitor has been instantiated, child process monitors have or are about to start.
- Not Started - the process related to this task has not yet started; this status is propagated to the parent process monitor.
- Completed - the processes related to this task have finished successfully; this status is propagated to the parent process monitor.
- Error - the process related to this task has finished with errors; this status is propagated to the parent process monitor.
- Warning - a task in the hierarchy has reached status Error.
